The Tooth Bonding Timetables

Fissure Sealants In Buderim
We know how important smiling is. In fact, this isn’t the first time we have written about it. This blog has previously covered the benefits of a great smile including the economic, social, and romantic advantages to it. If your teeth are holding you back from smiling, it’s time to do something about it!

The good news is that your Comfort Dental dentist has many treatments to improve the look and feel of your teeth, and one of the quickest and least expensive is tooth bonding.

Tooth bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material is applied and hardened with a special light. This “bonds” the material to the tooth to restore or improve your smile.

To decide if tooth bonding is the right treatment for you, it is necessary to know a bit about the procedure, including how it is done, how long it lasts, and what you can do to keep your bonded teeth intact and gleaming!

When is Tooth Bonding the Right Choice?

Tooth bonding can be used to treat small cosmetic dental problems. It can also be used in cases where there is not enough existing tooth material to support a dental veneer. Applications for tooth bonding include gaps between teeth, unevenly sized teeth, tooth irregularities and misalignments, replacing older fillings, covering stained teeth, protecting tooth roots, and filling some cavities.

Tooth Bonding and your Precious Time

Bonding starts with a tooth cleaning and the application of a very mild etching solution to a tooth in order to create invisible gaps in the surface of the tooth. These microscopic gaps or cracks create a slightly rough surface that helps a durable composite resin to bond to the teeth. In some cases, a grinding tool may also be used.

The resin is then placed onto the tooth and a high-intensity ultraviolet light cures the resin to the surface of the tooth. After the last coat has been applied, the bonded material is sculpted to fit the tooth and then finely polished. The procedure takes longer than traditional metal fillings because multiple layers of the bonding material are applied to achieve desired results.

The great news is that tooth bonding can be normally be done in one visit of approximately one hour!

Tooth Bonding and your Dental Future

Bonded teeth can last for a decade, sometimes even more. There are several approaches you can take to help protect your newly bonded teeth.

Practice good dental habits: Brush your teeth twice daily, ideally once in the morning and once at night, using toothpaste that contains fluoride. Floss once a day, being sure to be thorough.
Drink water after meals: Drinking water after meals will help flush out food particles and reduce acidity levels in the mouth. If you drink sodas, be sure to use a straw

Avoid foods and drinks that stain the teeth: Foods and drinks with dark colours, bright colours, or artificial colouring are the most likely to stain your bonded teeth. Acidic content in foods and drinks can also lead to tooth discolouration. Tobacco products also cause staining.

Avoid foods that might damage your bonding: Hard, crunchy, or sticky foods can wear down and chip the bonding material due to the force that is exerted while chewing on these foods.

Bad habits, including biting on fingernails or other hard objects, wears down the bonding material and tooth enamel over time.
